Southwest Virginia was the original frontier of America a primary settling location along The Great Road, the original migration route of westward expansion. This original frontier land generated the need for material and supplies that the coastal colonies were able to source from shipments from Europe. Thus – the craft industry of Southwest Virginia was born… makers began to craft pots for cooking, quilts for warm in the winter, toys for children to play, and everything else needed for daily life in the mountains of Appalachia.

Over three centuries later, these same crafts have been passed through the generations. In many cases, the traditions have been passed from father to son / mother to daughter in their native form. You’ll find traditional baskets, quilts, pottery, and more in the style of our ancient ancestors.
