Join us for a memoir writing class at the SWVA Cultural Center & Marketplace taught by Miriam Sauls. For inspiration for our workshop, we’ll look at food and the role it has played in both our lives and in our culture. We will spend some time "sifting the ingredients" of our lives to access our own food memories using writing exercises, examining both the "sweet and savory" ways food may affect us. We will talk about vivid writing and form and color, and we will use words and drawing and painting and collage to respond to the memories and sensations of our experiences. All of our work will be done in a safe and supportive environment where process, exploration, and creative play will be our focus. You will leave satiated with fine food, with some new writing and art skills, with a book of your own showing your work for the day (but with room to continue expanding your new techniques and ideas), with an extensive bibliography of resources about food, and with new friends because there is no better way to make friends than creating and feasting together around the table. Miriam Sauls is from North Carolina. She has published articles and essays in local, state, and national magazines and works as a producer and documentary filmmaker. She holds a Master's Degree in English and a Certificate in Documentary Studies. Vernessa Foelix lives in Switzerland and has shown her artwork in many venues internationally. She teaches painting and English. She holds a Master's Degree in Art Education and has offered workshops in Europe and the USA. Chef Charles Parker is the SWVA Cultural Center Culinary Ambassador. He fell in love with food at age 5 and plans to help others do the same, while celebrating local farmers, growers and producers. Join us for this inspiring event! • Date: October 24, 2019 • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM • Price: $150 • Registration cap of 12 (Only 12 tickets are available) Sponsors: Katbird's Wine and Gourmet Peyton Boyd A Likely Yarn / Janet Woolwine Park Street Guest House / Janet Woolwine...
